Leather & Stripes

Hey loves! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  My dad visited for the weekend and we did some fun shopping. Did you see my new purse on Instagram? Work hard play hard, right? I sure have been working hard over the past few months. Having a full time job and blogging is no easy feat! (Think waking up at 6 to engage on Instagram for an hour, run, work all day, eat dinner, go for a walk, work on the blog and engage on Instagram for a few hours, repeat). But it is so worth it.

Let's talk about this outfit. If you don't already own these Paige pants I highly recommend buying them. I've owned mine for years and still wear them all of the time. While I love wearing my J Brand leather pants, they can be a little intense (and hot) for every outfit I'm going for. This coated black pant is a nice mix between jeans and leather pants. Plus the zippers give them a chic edge.

The long sleeve shirt is Rag and Bone. I know it's pretty expensive for what it is but it's such a great basic. I wear it with black pants, ripped jeans, white jeans, jean shorts etc. It has a raw hem which gives it that worn in cozy look.

I am thinking about doing a post for Valentines Day on a Q&A about Ray and I. Let me know if you have any questions (about us, how we met, how he proposed, dating/relationship advice etc). Would love to know what you guys are curious about! xox

Changing It Up

I won't lie, I am still not sure about these sunglasses. I bought them a few months ago because I felt like I was wearing too many aviators and should switch it up. Now I think I've decided aviators are just my look and I'm going to stick to them. Hope you guys don't mind! I will admit these photographed well and are fun. After posting my sneak peak picture on Instagram yesterday and seeing all your sweet comments about them, maybe I'm wrong and just not use to the change.

These are the best leather pants out there. They are so fitted and comfortable. I have heard horror stories of people spending a lot on leather pants only for them to stretch out a few months later. With these that hasn't been the case. I love pairing them with a tee or long sleeve shirt and keeping it simple- with leather you don't want to overdo it. Hope you guys have a good weekend xox

How to Style a Bar Cart

When I was younger I dreamed of coming home from work, putting on music, pouring a drink and making dinner with my hubby (yes, I dreamed about this and not my wedding day). And that is essentially our routine. We get home from work, walk Luca, pour a glass of wine and make dinner. We usually look to the bar cart to see what alcohol we have at home. There is something about the bar cart that makes the routine even more enjoyable.

A bar cart is one of my favorite pieces in a living room. Not only is it a great piece in terms of decor, it has a lot of practical use (i.e. storage and wine, two of my favorite things). [This is a total side note but am I the only one that finds I NEVER have enough storage? We move into bigger and bigger places and the problem seems to follow me around. I refuse to accept that I just continue accumulating more and more stuff.]

We bought this bar cart on Craigslist when we lived in Montreal. I will say the most beautiful bar carts I've seen are usually from places like flea markets and eBay. I knew this one was a gem. I sent Ray on a mission and when he brought it home I was in love. Once I stopped staring at it for a while I had to figure out how to decorate it. Decorating it wasn't as easy as I thought so I thought I would share with you some of my tips.

Tip 1: Decide on a theme

There are so many ways to decorate a bar cart. Just like I mentioned in my Tips for Home Decor post, I think it's a good idea to spend some time scrolling through Pinterest to discover what kind of bar cart decor you are into and what you can live without. Do you want it to revolve only around drinking (glassware, different alcohol, straws, accessories etc)? Do you want it for show only or to have a practical use? I knew I wanted it to hold wine but also to be a place where I stored items I wanted visible in the dining room, but had no where to put them.

Tip 2: Decide on the alcohol to other items ratio.

Some bar carts are used primarily to store alcohol. While I am ALL for an endless supply of alcohol, we tend to purchase a couple of bottles at a time rather than a box at a time. We are rarely in a situation where we have 12 bottles of wine at home. So I knew I wanted to have room for around 4 bottles of wine and a few bottles of sparkling water (which is just for show).

Tip 3: If you have any fancy glassware, display it.

Most of our glassware is from IKEA or Home Goods. Since we didn't register for our wedding, we never ended up investing a lot of money in items for the home (like glassware, pots and pans etc). Blame it on my shoe addiction if you must, but I kind of feel like the cheap glasses do the trick and there's no point in spending money on that. Nevertheless, if you do have fancy glassware, display it. I have fine china from my grandmother and I make sure that is displayed. There is no point in hiding it in a cupboard. I did take a fancy Ralph Lauren decanter and glass set (pictured above) from my dad that he never used and made that the focus of the top shelf.

Tip 4: Add some fake flowers (or real ones if you keep it up) and books

Flowers (real or fake) are the easiest way to add a pop of color and fill up an empty space. The ones on my bar cart are fake from Home Goods. You don't need to spend a lot of money and there are a million variations. Books are another great way to fill up the cart. I currently have a vintage looking edition of Great Expectations from Anthropology on my cart. I also have my wedding album on the bottom shelf.

Tip 5: Make it seasonal

A trick I learned from my mom is to make it seasonal. For example, over Christmas hang little Christmas lights on the top shelf. It's an inexpensive way to change it up and give that Christmas feel in your home.

My one caution when it comes to bar carts is be realistic. When I first started decorating it I would put fresh lemons in a bowl on the lower shelf every week. While it's a cute idea, slowly I would forget to replace the lemons and it just became annoying to remember. Same thing could happen if you choose to decorate with fresh flowers. While I wish my house would always look like a Pinterest picture, it doesn't. You want to make the decor as easy and realistic as possible.

I hope these tips helped! I also pinned some of my favorite bar cart inspiration pics on my Pinterest page. Let me know if you have any other tips xoxox

Pink & Gold

Normally I start my posts discussing the clothes and then move on to accessories but with this outfit I need to start with these Chloe shoes. I wanted these shoes forever. If any of you are fan you know that they've been around for a while. I could never pull the trigger because they were so damn expensive (yes, even more expensive than all of the other shoes I own). And they NEVER went on sale. Anyway, last year before Christmas I was in Bal Harbor in Miami and decided to go in to the Chloe boutique and take a look...quite honestly I would just be teasing myself but I couldn't resist. I mentioned to the sales woman my obsession with these shoes and she told me that these patent version were 40% off. 40% OFF!!!! I was ecstatic and grabbed them, of course. Anyway fast forward a year I walked into the Chloe boutique here in LA on Melrose wearing these boots. The saleswoman asked me about them and I told her I got them 40% off. She said that they brought them back this year and full price, since there was so much demand. Talk about getting lucky!

I love this sweater. It is even prettier in person. I shot this a while ago and since then so many bloggers have worn it but it is really special. The sleeve details are everything.

I had such a fun shoot yesterday. Every time we finished a look I felt like it was my favorite one ever. Can't wait to share with you! xoxox

The Best Thing About The Cold

Hey guys! So I know I've been complaining about the cold weather in LA lately (and I am not exaggerating- my friend landed from MTL yesterday and said it felt like the same temp!) but the best part about this weather is that I can finally put my Gucci princetowns to good use. And by good use I mean that it is actually weather appropriate to wear them, unlike when I wear them in the summer during the middle of a heat wave (anything for fashion, right?)

I contemplated buying these shoes forever. Every time I passed a Gucci store (in LA, Miami, NYC) I would go inside and try them on. Eventually everyone got fed up and said no more- buy them or don't. So I did and it was the best decision.

This outfit I am wearing is a typical work outfit. Normally I will swap the Guccis for Manolos if I need to be more dressed up. The pants are from Zara and were less than $50- I swear I wear them 3 times a week.

This weekend one of my best friends is in town so there will be a lot of catching up and girl talk. I also may drag her to IKEA to buy a full length mirror so that I can take pics of my daily outfits for you guys. Most people get their Instagram Hubbies to take pictures every day but oh boy, you do not want to see the pics of me that Ray takes. I love him to death but being an Instagram Hubby is just not his thing (think of me looking 200 lbs and 4 ft). Not pretty. And so I intend to take more mirror selfies of my looks. Stay tuned! xox

The benefits of collagen

For as long as I can remember I have had a sensitive stomach. It took years and years of eliminating foods to determine what agreed with me and what didn't. I can honestly say that think I have now (finally) figured out a system. I know what to eat, in what combination, at what times etc. (I am happy to do a more detailed post if you'd like).

To say I am a picky eater is an understatement. I don't eat dairy (I am lactose intolerant). I don't eat meat (a purely personal rather than dietetic choice). I don't eat a lot of sweets. I eat gluten in moderation...Let's just say when I moved to LA I fit right in.

Now, one of my biggest challenges is to ensure that I have enough protein and calcium in my diet. I haven't had red meat for nearly 13 years and all meat for almost 8 years (I stopped the day I took Luca home).

When I moved to LA I started to hear about the benefits of ingesting collagen. I ignored it, assuming that collagen was just intended to help with anti-aging and I'm only 28, hello. Okay fine, 28 is not considered so young in Beverly Hills...don't remind me. Anyway, I never gave collagen much thought until I was introduced to Vital Proteins. I started to research the benefits and it seemed as though it was designed just for me. The list included helping the digestive system by supporting hydrochloric acid and repairing the lining of the stomach, preventing aging by promoting moisture in the skin (in Beverly Hills I need this), strengthening hair and nails (which I obviously need from my lack of calcium) and leading to a more restorative sleep. After reading this list I would be foolish not to give it a try.

And so I have been including Vital Proteins in my smoothies and so far the effects have been great. It definitely takes some time but I notice my nails getting stronger and  my stomach hasn't had any major issues lately (yes, I am aware the dry January plays a part). It's also a great way to add protein to the diet.

My favorite is the Collagen Beauty Greens. It has 70 calories, 10 grams of protein and 3 grams of sugar per serving. I thought I would share one of my favorite smoothie recipes (pictured above). It contains collagen, protein, potassium and antioxidants and is low in fat and sugar. I normally have it for breakfast or as a midmorning snack.

Ingredients (simply blend them together):

1/2 banana
1 cup of almond milk (I like the Almond Breeze Unsweetened Vanilla)
1 scoop of Vital Proteins Collagen Beauty Greens (it's a coconut vanilla flavor)
1 teaspoon of Matcha powder
1/2 teaspoon of maple syrup (optional)
Ice

I would love to know what you think! xox

This post is in collaboration with Vital Proteins. All opinions are my own.

Oldie but Goodie

If this jacket is familiar it's because I own it in grey and posted it here. I bought the jackets at Zara during the Black Friday sale. They were $60 each on sale (how could I not buy both?). I really love the color of this one. It's perfect for winter months. I paired it with one of my favorite shoes. I know that Valentino rockstuds are no longer really in style, but I'm still obsessed with mine. The olive color contrasted with the gold studs is such a beautiful combination. Also, I bought these for myself the weekend I found out I passed the California bar, so they have special significance to me. Lastly, when you spend so much money on shoes it is such a shame to just put them away.

How was your weekend? It rained like crazy in LA yesterday. I had a shoot planned that I had to move, so that was disappointing. But I actually loved spending the day cozy inside. Ray watched football (obviously) and I spent the day working on She Went West. I started posting more Instagram stories this weekend and really enjoyed it! I plan to do it way more often. I'm also in talks with a few fun collaborations. Can't wait to share! xoxox
