This week on Instagram I revealed the first picture of my guest bedroom. For those of you that don't know, Ray and I get a lot of visitors. Any by a lot of visitors, I mean around 46 weekends out of the year. So our guest bedroom gets a lot of use.
For a long time I've felt that our guest bedroom was very mediocre. It tended to be where the leftover furniture ended up (aka the furniture that has moved with me from place to place but that I don't really know what to do with anymore). Let's just say, it was never my favorite room in the house. So a few months ago I decided it was time to focus on redecorating it. Following my own tips from this post, I starting finding inspiration on Pinterest, blogs, Instagram and magazines. I really wanted to do something outside the box for me and make it very "LA." I decided on a modern Scandinavian vibe with a moroccan twist (very different than my normal shabby chic...which I'm a bit over I might add).
I picked out the headboard, frames, lamp, plants etc. and then had to decide on a rug. A rug really ties the room together. It can be overwhelming, since there are so many options and if you're buying it online you can't see it in person. I got my rug at Rugs USA and it's honestly one of the best places to choose a rug. The site has so much selection and it's easy to filter through categories, sizes, color etc.
My suggestion is to first decide what "theme" you want. Do you want a pattern (and if so, geometric, traditional, bohemian, vintage etc). Then decide what color you want. I knew I wanted a bohemian print and for it to be black and white. Lastly, decide what size you want. For me, I wanted the rug to fit perfectly under the bed and chose an 8 x 10. I'm so happy with my choice. The quality is amazing (it's so soft) and the print fit perfectly with the decor.
