The Rule With High Boots

Hey loves, welcome to She Went West! I'm so excited to share with you all the things I love, from fashion to beauty products, healthy eating to home decor.

This blog was a long time coming- two years to be exact. I started taking pictures for the blog and shortly thereafter landed a full-time job. It was one of those situations where everything happens at once. You know what I mean? It's either you have nothing going on or everything seems to happen at the same time. I managed to convince myself that I couldn't have a full-time job and run a blog. And I did a pretty good job, as I gave it up. I put the pictures in a folder and moved on. Without a doubt every few months I would complain to my husband that I wished I followed through with it and he always responded that it's not too late. To make a long story short, I finally decided that I would stop making excuses and so here we are!

I'm originally from Montreal and moved to New York to study media at NYU. I loved the city and interning in the Fashion and PR industry. But like most people, I still had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. So I decided to go to law school Cliché? Yes. Worth it? Still not sure.

I moved back to Montreal and that's when I met my husband (more about that later). When I finished law school we moved to LA. I absolutely love the city- the weather (who wouldn't?), the style (think of Jane Birkin, Bianca Jagger, Lauren Hutton mixed with the Olsens and the influence of Monica Rose), endless healthy restaurants, chic bars and so on. There is really nothing not to love.

Enough about me, let's talk about over-the-knee boots. Just like last year, they are everywhere this fall! This year there are definitely more affordable versions out there if you don't want to splurge on Stuart Weitzmans. The ones I am wearing are from Zara and were less than $100 dollars. While I do think the Highlands are amazing, I knew I wouldn't wear them enough to warrant the price tag. I loved these Zara ones because they fit perfectly around the leg (you want them to be snug).

If you are going to wear short shorts like I did, or a tight skirt, I would suggest covering up more on the top. I also like when at least a bit of skin is showing between the boots and the rest of the outfit. Although, I have to admit, Victoria Beckham does an incredible job of styling an outfit with over-the-knee boots and no skin showing (but this is difficult and if not done correctly can be a disaster, especially if you are petite).

I love the look of an oversized sweater or shirt with over-the-knee boots, or even a t-shirt dress with a long coat on top. Stay tuned for more looks with these boots in the coming weeks. xoxo
